The year is 2020. I’m excited. I’m ready to launch my own website! It’s been my goal for the last 3 months, and I am finally ready. I wrote 3 blog posts and am ready for the world to see them. In just 10 easy steps, I achieved a dream I’ve had for forever!

So on January 1st, I click to launch my very first website and just like that, I’m live on the internet. A dream of mine for years; a real goal for 8 months. That is how I will look back on 2020! This year, so much has changed. It’s the year I launched my website for my blog, but it is also a year of grief and anxiety. It’s a year where I have reflected on what’s important in life. It’s the year I started my blog live!

launch your own website

In this post, I am going to bring you through my journey, from my research to my overwhelm to finally launching my own website to host my blog. I will show you how easy it is so you can too! I created my Guide to the Best Web Hosting in 10 Easy Steps with you mind, with visuals to guide you along the way. I also show you that you do need to spend some money, but spend it smartly in the right places, and you will reap the rewards, just like I have.

Before the Big Launch

launch your own website

To clarify, when I say, “I started my blog”, I mean that I launched my own website and posted a few entries. Prior to that, I was blogging in my purple marble notebook! You can read the OG Collection here.

In the beginning, I thought only big companies had websites and that I had to have a plan to launch my own website. I was confused by the terminology, host, blog, website, WordPress and coding! Gosh! I haven’t done coding since college!

Then, one day in March 2019, I was scrolling through social media, and I stumbled across a 3-day virtual conference (this was before it was cool to go virtual!). The speakers at the conference were all successful online entrepreneurs who told their stories.

It was that conference when I realized that my thinking was way off! All I needed to do was write; just start. And so I did.

Being a very analytical person (aka: introverted-introvert!), I started researching and reading All. The. Things.

I read about plug/play sites, the pieces I needed for a safe website, the difference between owning my information and releasing ownership to a platform. I learned that everything came at a cost, and I needed to keep startup extremely tight. There was so much to read, and I was more confused than ever and exhausted!

My AHA Moment

The 3-day virtual conference I told you about returned in September of the same year. I listened to speaker after speaker share their expertise in such a selfless way! (One day, I will be a speaker on that conference telling my story!) The speakers all made me understand that my plan had to be NOT to have a plan! They showed me that I needed to return to my original goal: just start! And so I did…
